Lindsey Vonn Asks Permission To Race In Men’s Downhill At Lake Louise

Shades of Billie Jean King (if you’re old enough to remember the tennis “battle of the sexes”). Now, American superstar Lindsey Vonn – who already has won on the Lake Louise women’s downhill course 10 times – wants a shot at the men.
Vonn has written to the International Ski Federation (FIS) requesting permission to enter the men’s World Cup downhill Nov. 24 at the Alberta ski area. That is a week before the women are set to race there.

Wild Mountain First Ski Area In Nation To Open; Earliest Ever In Midwest

Ski area opening bragging rights go to the Midwest for the 2012/13 season.
Wild Mountain, east of the Twin Cities along the Minnesota/Wisconsin border, opened Sunday (10/7/12) with two runs, Front Stage and Dandy, with a couple of rope tows. They plan to put out a few rails and boxes as soon as possible. Ticket prices right now for all ages, open to close, are $18.

Snowmaking Underway At Copper Mountain

The first dusting of snow has graced the Colorado High Country, and even the first turns of the season have already taken place in Breckenridge. But this season’s opening act kicks off in earnest this week – snowmaking!
Copper Mountain fired up their system early Tuesday morning, coating a few runs at the top of the mountain with a dusting of white. Late Wednesday night and into Thursday morning, temperatures and humidity levels are forecasted to drop, and Loveland, Arapahoe Basin and Copper are all expected to see some solid snowmaking production windows.
